AR. WASEEM AHSAN JAMIL:
I have recently joined
IACPL as Senior Archi-
tect. I am a graduate
from UET Lahore with
post-graduation from
UK. What I carry within
myself is my wide pro-
fessional experience
which is stretched over 40 years both locally
and internationally. The expertise includes
Project, Design and Construction Manage-
ment over a wide range of Projects including
Hospitality, Recreation, High Rise, Administra-
tive including Health Care facilities.
VISIT TO INTERNATIONAL FIRM KHATIB & ALAMI
During the visit, IACPL had
the opportunity to inter-
act with top tier archi-
tects, designers, and pro-
fessionals of K&A who
were at the forefront.
Through discussions, inter-
active sessions and first-
hand look at K&A proj-
ects, IACPL gained practi-
cal knowledge that could
be put to use in IACPL’s
future projects and team
development.
IACPL began with a comprehensive visit to K&A's studio, observing the
work environment, team collaboration with remote teams, and the inte-
gration of different disciplines (Visualizing team, Technical Team, Compa-
ny Operations Team, cost, quantity, QA, landscape, traffic, ID and Docu-
mentation team, and BIM Support Team). This gave IACPL an understand-
ing of K&A collaborative processes and how ideas were shared and devel-
oped within the firm. It also provided IACPL with an overview of the K&A
hierarchy, command structure at Sharjah office and design centers in
India, Egypt etc.
Design Process: IACPL gained insights into K&A problem-solving strategies,
decision-making processes, and how they balanced aesthetic consider-
ations with functional requirements. Team IACPL learned about K&A's
approach to project initiation, research and analysis, concept develop-
ment, design development, material selection, quality assurance and final
execution.
Project Site Visit: IACPL requested to see K&A ongoing and completed
design projects. Team IACPL examined K&A design documentation,
sketches, models and renderings to understand the evolution of K&A's
design process from concept to the final product and afterwards visited
multiple K&A projects. By visiting these projects, IACPL gained a compre-
hensive understanding of K&A's design evolution, problem-solving tech-
niques, and how they responded to site-specific challenges.
Technological Integration: IACPL explored K&A's use of technology in the
design process. This included software applications, 3D modeling, virtual
reality, or other innovative tools. Understanding how technology was inte-
grated into K&A's workflow provided IACPL with insights into enhancing
their own design processes.
Outcomes and Learnings: Lessons learned from the collaborative sessions
at K&A present compelling opportunities for implementation within IACPL's
framework. The cross-disciplinary engagement observed during brain-
storming sessions could be integrated into IACPL's practices, encouraging
diverse viewpoints from architects, engineers, and designers. This diversity
can fuel innovation and problem-solving. By mirroring K&A's approach,
IACPL could nurture a culture that values open communication, encourag-
es active participation, and embraces different perspectives.
Improving team dynamics at IACPL could foster an environment where
individuals feel empowered to contribute ideas, develop a sense of own-
ership in projects, and make use of regular collaborative sessions through
the involvement of various departments.
Recommendations for implementation include adopting structured brain-
A visit of senior architect wing was arranged to gain in-depth knowledge
and understanding of the design process employed by K&A, by gelling
IACPL managers in K&A working environment and by engaging IACPL’s
key individuals with K&A key teams. IACPL explored K&A’s design
philosophy, creative design methodologies, collaborative team
approaches, and the deployment of modern technologies and software in
their projects.
Visit of IACPL delegate to Al Zahia shopping mall, a project of Khatib &
Alami(International Designer of our Reem Heights, a mix use development)
storming methods such as design charrettes
or ideation workshops, establishing clear
communication channels, and promoting
cross-disciplinary collaboration through joint
project reviews or interdepartmental meet-
ings.
These initiatives have the potential to invigo-
rate creativity, enhance communication,
and foster a more cohesive working environ-
ment within IACPL.
