CENTER FOR WELL BEING AND POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY
Dear Readers,
In today's fast-paced world, mental health issues
have become increasingly prevalent, yet the
stigma surrounding them persists. It's crucial to
recognize that mental health is just as important
as physical health, and seeking help should be
encouraged, not shamed. No one should feel
embarrassed about reaching out for support.
Acknowledging mental health struggles is the
rst step towards healing. It takes courage to
confront one's inner battles and seek assistance.
However, this journey becomes smoother with
the support of loved ones and the community.
We must foster an environment of empathy and
understanding, where individuals feel safe to
open up about their mental health challenges

without fear of judgment.
Encouraging help-seeking behavior is vital.
Whether it's oering a listening ear, providing
resources, or simply being there for someone in
need, our collective eorts can make a signi-
cant dierence.
Let's break the silence surrounding mental
health, normalize conversations, and advocate
for accessible and inclusive mental health
services for all. Together, we can create a society
where seeking help is not only accepted but
celebrated as a courageous step toward healing
and well-being.
Remember, you are not alone, and seeking help
is a brave and commendable act.

Few historians write that Yoga
originated around 10,000 years
ago, but ocially it can be
traced back over 5,000 years to
ancient India, where it was
developed as a spiritual prac-
tice. Yoga is a powerful tool for spiritual growth
and is essentially a process to take one beyond
the limitations of body and mind. According to
experts the reason why most people are unhap-
py or unhealthy is that the physical”, mental”
and pranic” bodies are not aligned. In order to
develop harmony and coherence in these three
parts, involvement in Yoga practice is very help-
ful. Continued on Page 2

We all have heard the saying A healthy body is a
healthy mind” and according to WHO: Health is a
state of complete physical, mental and social
wellbeing. It is not merely the absence of
disease or inrmity. This notion is the primary
focus of the discipline of Community Medicine
which is now also known as The Public Health.
Public health is the art and science of preventing
diseases, promoting health, and prolonging life
through the organized eorts of community
members. A community consists of many indi-
viduals living together in a dened geographical
area, sharing common interests, goals, and ways
of life. Several factors aect community health,
including housing, education, safety, nancial
security, nutrition, and the environment. While
not all these factors are directly under individual
control, they are integral to the places where
people grow up, live, and work, signicantly
contributing to the overall health of the commu-
nity.

Although it is the government's duty to manage
these factors and implement a comprehensive
Health Care Plan through its healthcare teams, it
is equally important for community members to
have some knowledge about this subject. This
awareness allows them to learn from the plan's
ndings and develop personal strategies to
maintain their own health.
The glands in the human body are the stepping
stones on the journey towards health. There are
at least 43 glands, which act as doorways
between our spirit, thoughts, emotions, and
body. It has been empirically proven that these
glands receive messages from us that manifest
in life-giving properties. Therefore, it is import-
ant to nourish our glands with healthy messag-
es, making health a permanent presence and an
impressive ame in our lives. This can only be
achieved by adopting a healthy lifestyle. One
eective approach is the 5H-Theory, which
emphasizes incorporating the following
elements into your life:
1. Healthy Food
2. Healthy Thoughts
3. Healthy Feelings
4. Healthy Actions
5. Healthy Goals
This consists of eating a balanced diet, maintain-
ing positive and optimistic thoughts, experienc-
ing feelings of love, appreciation, and belong-
ing, engaging in physical exercise and enjoyable
leisure activities, performing noble deeds, and
doing something benecial for society. In short,
by adopting and manifesting these practices in
your life, the wellspring of Hope, Healing,
Health, and Happiness will be inevitable and
unstoppable.

When people say, “I am unhappy despite being
successful", I probe and look into why is it that
despite the success they are unhappy. As a social
scientist, I discovered that most of us are unhap-
py in life because we look and focus on only one
aspect of life. For example, you have many
rooms in your house, but you solely focus on
one room and keep it tidy while neglecting all
other rooms. You will then nd that the lth in
other rooms will eventually invade the room
that you kept clean. Your eorts to create com-
fort in one space will be undermined by the lack
of attention to the entire home, leading to over-
all discomfort. Likewise, life has many compart-
ments/zones, and if we focus on one, and
neglect the other, then the cobwebs in other
compartments will start invading and contami-
nating the zone that one has maintained metic-
ulously. I have come to understand that life has
ve basic compartments and only if one works
in all these zones, ones life will be meaningful
and happy.
The "intimate zone" refers to something private
to you. Being a unique individual, you have your
internal calling, and you need to fulll that
calling. A housewife may have the talent and
desire to be a painter, but she is too busy being a
housewife and does not fulll her calling to be a
painter. Then, despite being a successful house-
wife, she becomes an unsuccessful and unhappy
individual.
In your "family zone," attending to the needs and
demands of your family is important. As you do
so, it's crucial to also concentrate on your "work
zone." Strive for creativity in your work zone,
because if you don't, the resulting lack of fulll-
ment can lead to inner tension. The tension from
the mind spills over to the body, making you
unhappy and unwell.
Then there is the "social zone". No man is an
island. We are all interdependent individuals;
helping others is helping yourself, and hurting
others is hurting yourself. Thus, when you start
developing positive relationships, this results in
the beautication of society, in which you can
enjoy and live happily.
Finally, every one of us has a spiritual seeker
within. Maslow's "Hierarchy of Needs" postu-
lates that in each of us, there is an "Actualization
need. But we don’t listen to the call of the
innite, the call of the good, the call of the
divine. As our mind is lost in petty pursuits. We
must listen to this call and try to respond to
satisfy our "spiritual zone".
So, like a good housewife who tends to all rooms
in the house and creates a cozy: Home Sweet
Home, life should also be approached in the
same multi-dimensional way. By addressing all
aspects of life's zones, a sense of well-being is
cultivated. This well-being brings comfort,
allowing us to live in harmony with our circum-
stances. If one can learn the art of being at peace
with what is, then our life will be poetry as for
most life is prose.
If the heart has only prose, even when you read
poetry, it will become prose. But, if your heart
has poetry, read prose and the prose will
become poetry. Therefore, if you want to live

Over the decades researchers have studied the
benecial eects of Yoga on specic systems of
humans, while others have focused on the gen-
eral wellbeing of individuals. They concluded
that practicing Yoga has several scientically
proven benecial eects that are mentioned
below.
1. Reduced stress, anxiety, and depression.
2. Reduced the intensity of physiological
ailments.
3. Improved concentration and attention.
4. Improved sleep.
5. Promoted healthy habits.
6. Improved physical health.
7. Improved brain functioning.
8. Improved emotional balance.
9. Improved mental health.
10. Improved personal and social life.
Basically, there are four types/paths of Yoga:
Karma, Bhakli, Jnana, and Raja whereas the four
requirements to start Yoga are: Proper diet,
Proper breathing, Proper exercise, and
Proper/Positive thinking. Although it is easy and
possible to learn Yoga online, from a book or
DVD as it is a low-risk activity. However, some-
times it can cause injury, primarily sprains or
strains. Poor technique, pre-existing physical
conditions or excessively trying too hard can
also cause further injury. So, the best way to
learn and practice Yoga is under the supervision
of a qualied teacher in a private session or a
group (Ref: The International Sivananda Yoga
Center, India).
Finally, this brief article is based upon my
personal experience, as I and my wife have been
practicing Yoga at home for the last few months
under the supervision of a qualied teacher and
both have noticed its several benecial eects
on us. In short, I will strongly and sincerely
advise the readers of this Newsletter to start
practicing Yoga, as it has signicantly improved
our quality of life and well-being.

If you're looking for a transformative read that
will shift your perspective and unlock your full
potential, look no further than "Mindset" by
Carol Dweck. In this groundbreaking book,
Dweck explores the power of mindset and how
it can profoundly impact every aspect of our
lives.
Drawing on decades of research, Dweck intro-
duces the concept of the xed mindset versus
the growth mindset. She explains how individu-
als with a xed mindset believe that their abili-
ties and intelligence are static traits, leading to a
fear of failure and a reluctance to take on new
challenges. On the other hand, those with a
growth mindset see their abilities as malleable
and view challenges as opportunities for growth
and learning.
Through compelling anecdotes and scientic
evidence, Dweck demonstrates how adopting a
growth mindset can lead to greater success,
resilience, and fulllment in both personal and
professional endeavors. She oers practical
strategies for cultivating a growth mindset and
overcoming obstacles along the way.
Whether you're a student, educator, parent, or
professional, "Mindset" oers invaluable insights

Dear Counselor:
How do I?
Dear Counselor, how do I rebuild trust in a
relationship after it's been broken?
Dear Reader,
Rebuilding trust in a relationship after it's been
broken demands a concerted eort rooted in
honesty, empathy, and patience. Firstly, acknowl-
edging the pain caused by the breach of trust is
paramount, allowing both parties to express
their emotions openly and without judgment.
Eective communication is foundational, foster-
ing a safe environment where feelings, concerns,
and expectations can be freely discussed. The
individual who breached the trust must take full
accountability for their actions, oering sincere
apologies and demonstrating genuine remorse
while committing to tangible changes.
Transparency becomes a cornerstone, with both
partners embracing openness about their
actions, whereabouts, and emotions. Establish-
ing clear boundaries helps safeguard against
future breaches, providing a sense of security and
predictability. Seeking professional guidance
from a couples therapist can oer invaluable
support, providing tailored strategies and medi-
ating constructive conversations. Patience is
crucial throughout this process, as rebuilding
trust is a gradual journey marked by setbacks and
doubts. With mutual dedication and the right
support, it's possible to mend the fractures and
fortify the foundation of the relationship, foster-
ing a stronger, more resilient bond.

Adapting to change is an essential skill in navigating life's ever-evolving landscape. Change is
inevitable, whether it's a major life transition, a career shift, or challenges that arise unexpectedly.
Learning how to adapt to change with resilience and exibility can help us thrive in the face of
uncertainty.
Acknowledging that change is a natural part of life and resisting it only causes more stress and
discomfort. Embracing change as an opportunity for growth and learning can help shift our
perspective and mindset. One key aspect of adapting to change is acceptance. Another crucial aspect
is exibility. Being open to new ideas, perspectives, and ways of doing things allows us to adjust our
plans and expectations as circumstances change.
Flexibility enables us to navigate unexpected challenges and obstacles with ease and resilience.
Additionally, focusing on what we can control helps us empower ourselves and take proactive steps to
manage the changes we're facing. Setting realistic goals can provide a sense of direction and purpose
amid uncertainty. Building resilience is also key to adapting to change eectively. Cultivating resilience
through practices such as self-care, mindfulness, and maintaining a support network can help us
bounce back from setbacks and challenges.
Finally, maintaining a positive outlook can help us reframe change as an opportunity for growth and
personal development. Adopting a growth mindset and focusing on the potential benets and
opportunities that change can bring can help us navigate change with condence and optimism.
In conclusion, adapting to change requires a combination of acceptance, exibility, resilience, and a
positive mindset. By embracing change as a natural part of life's journey and adopting strategies to
navigate it eectively, we can not only survive but thrive in the face of uncertainty.
