The Board of Studies Meeting, department of Media
and Communication Studies, School of Digital & Cine-
matic Art (SDCA) was held on Wednesday, May 08,
2024. Dr. Asim Manzoor, Assistant Professor chaired the
meeting, which was attended by BOS members; Syed Ali
Sultan, Assistant Professor, of Media and Communica-
tion Studies at IAC Dr. Sohail Riaz, Incharge Media &
Communication Studies & Assistant Professor at
COMSAT University, Lahore, Dr. Abul Hasssan, Associate
Professor at the University of Lahore, Mr. Ameer Abbas,
COO GTV News Network and Senior Anchor Person,
along with Mr Syed Urooj Zafar Samdhani, HOD Film &
TV, IAC, MR Faizan Sidiqque, Assistant Controller Exam-
ination, IAC, and Coordinator SDCA, Ms. Kanza Sajid.

The Board of Studies (BOS) Meeting for the Department
of Film & TV (FTV), School of Digital & Cinematic Art
(SDCA), was held recently to discuss a number of things.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Syed Urooj Samdani,
HOD, FTV, and attended by esteemed BOS members
Professor Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed, Dean of the School
of Languages and Literature at the University of Lahore,
Dr. Wajiha Raza Rizvi, Associate Professor and Head of
the MS Film & TV Program at BNU, Mr. Ali Tahir, Actor/Di-
rector/Producer, Ms. Aneesa Rahat, Registrar at IAC, Dr.
Asim Manzoor, Assistant Professor at the Department of
Media & Communication Studies IAC, lecturers Mr.
Sikandar Javed and Mr. Mian Umar Farooq from FTV

The Department of Film & TV (FTV) hosted a series of PIFF (Pakistan International Film Festival)
workshops ‘Unlock Your Filmmaking Potential’ in collaboration with HUM, HUM News, KFS and
Bookme at the Institute for Art & Culture IAC, Lahore featuring prominent Hollywood profes-
sionals.
The workshops included "Essentials of Feature Film Shooting" by accomplished cinematogra-
pher James McMillan, "Working as a Creative Hollywood Producer" by renowned producer
Luisa Iskin, "Developing TV Series and Writing Films" by award-winning writer Sadia Ashraf,
and "How to Run a Feature Film Production Unit" by distinguished assistant director Andrew
Fiero. Students from the Dept. of Film & TV and other filmmakers from all over Pakistan actively
participated in these workshops, gaining both basic and in-depth knowledge of each topic
through practical hands-on training and discussion, making it a valuable learning experi-
ence.
The immersive nature of these workshops allows attendees to engage directly with the film-
makers, ask questions, and receive personalized feedback. This interaction helps demystify
the filmmaking process, inspiring participants to refine their creative visions and enhance
their technical skills.
Moreover, these workshops often include collaborative projects, where attendees can apply
their learning in real-time, fostering a sense of community and networking among like-mind-
ed peers. The mentorship and connections formed during these sessions can be pivotal in
launching successful careers in Hollywood and beyond, making such workshops a corner-
stone for any aspiring filmmaker's education and professional development.

MID JURY OF ANIMATION DESIGN;
MR. ZOHAIB IQBAL (ANIMATOR AND
GAME ARTIST)
Students got the opportunity to accumulate the guidelines and
directions for their Final Year Project of Animated films by Mr. Zohaib
Iqbal, an expert in 2D and 3D Animated Films and Game Artist, who
have been in this field from 15 years. Iqbal has worked on various
films and fame projects on a global surface. Students presented the
progress of their Final Year Project including the narratives and story
boards, character sheets, environment concept art, and the first
draft of sequence in motion.
Iqbal has taught them the latest market trends of animated films
and requirements of industry to inculcate in their work. They have
explored various projects broadcasted on networks like Dunya TV,
Hum Network, and GEO Entertainment.
In a momentous stride toward enhancing student learning experi-
ences, IAC Film and TV Department proudly presents its revamped
studio facilities. Now boasting soundproofing, a Chroma Wall,
carpeted flooring, and a controlled environment, the studio is
primed for optimal practice sessions in Film and TV production.
This upgrade promises manifold benefits for students and the
department alike. In the new studio, students can focus more intent-
ly on honing their craft, ensuring the highest quality productions
with the latest equipment. The inclusion of a Chroma Wall opens up
endless creative possibilities for immersive visual storytelling, while
the controlled recording environment provides a professional setting
for hands-on learning. As the department continues to evolve, this
enhancement solidifies its commitment to providing cutting-edge
resources for the next generation of filmmakers and television pro-
fessionals.

Dr. Younis Butt, is a distinguished screenwriter and humourist,
renowned for his significant contributions to Pakistani television.
Among his acclaimed works is the popular drama series Family Front,
which has left a lasting impact on audiences. Another notable con-
tribution by Dr. Butt is the satirical program Hum Sab Umeed Sai
Hain, celebrated for its incisive humour and social commentary.
Recently, Dr. Younis Butt visited the Institute of Arts & Culture (IAC) to
explore potential collaborative ventures. During his visit, Dr. Butt
engaged in a productive meeting with Mr. Syed Urooj Zafar Samdani,
the Head of the Department of Film and Television at IAC. The
discussion focused on developing joint projects that would serve as
a platform for students of film & television to gain hands-on experi-
ence working with industry specialists.

always believes in its rich values of sharing experiences and contrib-
uting knowledge to the students of contemporary higher educa-
tional institutes.
In this connection, Green International University, Invited Mr. Urooj
Zafar Samdani and Dr. Asim Manzoor from SDCA, IAC to judge the
events of Poster Competition and Debate Competition on the
theme of Labour Day. The art of playing with colours and themes in
poster competition and with the words in debate competition, was
exceptionally remarkable by very talented students.
The hospitality kindness and generosity extended by Respected
Rector, GIU was exceptional.
While talking to students and faculty at GIU, Mr. Arooj Zafar Sam-
dani and Dr. Asim Manzoor appreciated the talent of student and
also appreciated the administration on organizing an excellent
event on such an important theme of Labour Day.
The Game Development and Design Department is thrilled to
announce the triumphant launch of the university's very own
Gaming Society, which made its grand debut on the highly antici-
pated Game Day. The event was an overwhelming success, with a
diverse range of activities that showcased the interests and talents
of our gaming community.
Game Day was nothing short of spectacular, beginning with intense
competitions in two of the most popular console games: Tekken and
FIFA. Students from various departments showcased their skills and
battled it out in friendly yet fiercely competitive tournaments. The
thrill of the matches was palpable, as cheers of encouragement
and excitement filled the air, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
GAME ON: GAME SOCIETY'S LAUNCH
EVENT!
In our latest workshop hosted by the Game Development Depart-
ment, students delved into the captivating world of compositing using
Adobe After Eects, guided by the esteemed Sir Kashif from the
School of Arts.
The session gave a new perspective on how little design decisions in
post-production can create over-all appealing environments. The
students learned how to infuse their game environments with lifelike
details. Sir Kashif demonstrated techniques to craft realistic weather
eects, like rain or snow, seamlessly integrating them into digital land-
scapes.

In our recent session hosted by the Game Development Depart-
ment, students embarked on an exciting exploration of speculative
fiction with the insightful Hassan Asif.
The session was a captivating journey through hypothetical scenari-
os and imaginative worlds characteristic of the genre. Hassan Asif
guided students through the intricacies of speculative fiction,
encouraging them to ponder alternative realities and question the
boundaries of possibility.

LIGHTING WORKSHOP WITH SIR
BILAL HAIDER
In our recent workshop hosted by the Game Development Depart-
ment, students were treated to an enlightening session on lighting in
Unity led by our very own alumni, Sir Bilal Haider from Game Design.
The session delved into the intricate art of lighting within game envi-
ronments. Students gained valuable skills in adjusting various light-
ing elements such as natural lighting, ambient lighting, reflections,
and shadows to enhance the visual appeal of their games. They
learned how dierent types of lighting can dramatically aect the
mood and atmosphere of virtual worlds.
Sir Bilal also demonstrated techniques for optimizing material inter-
action with lighting, showing students how to make surfaces appear
more realistic and dynamic. Moreover, students discovered how to
import objects from dierent mediums and elevate their visual qual-
ity through eective lighting strategies.
It was a hands-on experience that empowered our students with
practical knowledge and creative insights. We extend our gratitude
to Sir Bilal Haider for sharing his expertise and enriching our under-
standing of lighting in game development. We look forward to
applying these newfound skills in our future projects!

In order to create character model sheet that eectively convey
ideas and ensure smooth storytelling, Zoya and Abdullah have skill-
fully integrate visual aspects and narrative structure. Characters
and settings come to life thanks to their exacting attention to detail
and creative flare, engrossing audiences and improving the story-
telling experience as a whole.

Muzamal Suharwardy is a professional journalist
from last thirty years. During this he has served in
leading media organizations of the country.
Currently along with being Dean of media stud-
ies in IAC he is associated as analyst in Hum news
program Khabar Aur Tajzia. He also does a daily
show on Naya Daur. Muzamal Suharwardy also
writes four columns a week in daily Express. He is a welcome addition
to the School of Digital and Cinematic Art (SDCA), IAC.

DR. ASIM MANZOOR
Dr. Asim Manzoor has joined Institute for Art &
Culture as Assistant Professor in School of Digital
and Cinematic Arts. He is an academician by
passion, and a lot more by profession. From
being an Administrator to Public Relations
expert, worked as an event manager, served as
marketing sta trainer, a communication consul-
tant, a journalist and a career counsellor. He is a well-presented and
adaptable person, with solid qualifications and comprehensive
skill-set with focused approach. Energetic, dynamic and committed
team player, with leadership abilities, who uses high standards of
communication to establish positive interpersonal relationships.
In a remarkable display of creativity, students from school of art and
cinematic have embarked on a unique project, blurring the bound-
aries between reality and imagination. By closely examining every-
day items such as cameras, pencils, keychains, players, paper
cutters, hair catchers, watches, and chairs, these budding artists
have transformed them into vibrant characters with distinct person-
alities.
This project not only showcased the students' artistic talents but
also honed their observation, imagination, and storytelling skills. As
they continue to explore the limitless possibilities of creativity, the
students at school of art and cinematic serve as a testament to the
transformative power of art in our everyday lives.
